BodyTree Family Stories
Lang Kan
90 years old
Lang Kan came to us after the Circuit Breaker, where he lost his ability to walk and had to use a wheelchair. Having previously led an active lifestyle, his condition deteriorated at a tremendous speed during the pandemic. His severe nerve compression meant that he could not walk on his own and was at one point bedridden. Surgery was too risky and so his daughter, Julie, brought him to us. Through sheer determination and consistent training, Lang Kan’s never-give-up mindset helped him to move better again.
Lang Kan took time to work on his sit-to-stand routine at home, barefoot on the grass, which is kinder on the joints and helps wake up the arches of the feet. He practiced with his helper so we could progress his training more effectively in the studio. Small steps, done consistently, lead to real movement confidence.
BodyTree Family Stories
Rosie
74 years old
Kathleen wanted her mum, Rosie, to stay active and mobile. Encouraged by her daughter Kathleen, Rosie started Pilates in 2013 and she feels sharper and more alert after her sessions.
Even after fracturing her ankle, Rosie was able to bounce back faster with the help of Pilates. She even stretches on her own when she feels stiff.
BodyTree Family Stories
Mary
72 years old
When Mary started having pain from grocery shopping and playing mahjong, her daughter Joanne knew it wasn’t just age. It was muscle weakness. Joanne, a client (and now teacher) at Pilates BodyTree herself, recommended her mother come in for Pilates.
A year later, Mary’s transformation speaks for itself. She can carry heavy groceries, stand and walk for long hours, and play mahjong for ages, pain-free.
“I told her, you want to keep traveling, play with your grandkids, enjoy life? You need to stay strong. It’s either I pay for a teacher now, or I’ll be paying for hospital bills in a few years.”

Frequently asked questions
What if I have medical conditions or joint pain?
We’ll start with a comprehensive fall risk and movement assessment in your first session.
If you have a medical condition, please bring along your doctor’s memo or share your history with us. We’ll tailor the exercises accordingly.
All our sessions are low-impact and can be adapted to accommodate pain, stiffness, or other limitations.
I have never exercised before, can I do this? And how long will it take for me to see results?
Yes! You don’t need any fitness background. We customise each session to your current level of mobility and ability.
We’ve worked with clients in their 80s and 90s, including those who are in wheelchairs. The goal is to meet you where you are and help you move better.
How fast you see results depends on:
✔ Consistency: Even one class per week helps if done regularly, though 2-3x/week is ideal for faster progress.
✔ Lifestyle: An active routine and balanced diet enhance your Pilates benefits.
✔ Your starting point: Existing injuries or mobility challenges may adjust your timeline.
The key is to be consistent. Frequent self-practice will help your body absorb and retain what you learn.
What should I wear for the session?
Comfortable clothing that allows for movement is ideal.
No shoes are needed as we’ll be working barefoot to improve your foot strength and sensory input.
We’ll provide all the necessary equipment including Naboso and PowerPlate tools.
What is Naboso and PowerPlate and how do they help?
Naboso® is a sensory technology designed to stimulate the small nerves in the feet, which play a critical role in balance and movement. As we age, we lose sensitivity in our feet, making us more prone to falls. Naboso tools help ‘wake up’ your sensory system so you can move with more control and confidence.
PowerPlate® uses gentle vibration technology to enhance muscle activation, circulation, and balance. Studies show that vibration training can help reduce fall risk, improve strength, and support mobility in the elderly.
Can I bring my husband/wife or helper along?
Yes, a caregiver or family member is welcome to accompany the client during sessions. We believe a supportive environment makes the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Do note if our studio is crowded, we hope your companion can assist to wait outside the movement space.
